Dragon's Breath
Somewhere Snowy, Rocky Mountain National Park
f/10 | 1/200s | 200mm | ISO 1000
Not even the snowplows were out on this snowy morning as I searched for a good sunrise spot. Unable to predict what the foggy, low-hanging clouds were going to do, I drove back and forth looking for a good composition. Eventually I gave up trying to find the perfect spot and instead focused on actually capturing some images before the light disappeared, Taking a variety of angles and orientations, I hoped one of them would turn out. Fortunately enough, in the editing room, I thought this one had a good balance of elements that also told the story of the scene.
The sun in this scene looks like dragon’s breath to me which was very accurate in the sense of heat and warmth. All the snow you see in this photo was melted by the mid-afternoon as the heat wave swept through.
