Single Pine
Emerald Lake, Rocky Mountain National Park
f/8 | 1/200s | 33mm | ISO 100
Hiking during a white out brought a little abstact to my Thursday.
Lightly falling snow filled the air as we rounded the corner to Emerald Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park. Breaking up the overwhelming white was a single small pine tree, standing strong against the desolate landscape. I framed thew shot so the tree was the only thing visible against the snowy background.
This tree reminded me of what it’s like to swim underwater for the first time or to go skydiving. In both scenarios, you are completely surrounded by an unfamiliar atmosphere, and although it can be overwhelming at times, the atmosphere has no power to do anything but exsist around you. This tree seemed to be expressing that similar feeling, standing out against the blistering snowstorm.
